Eating does more than just fuel the body. Eating is sensorial, it brings pleasure and enjoyment. Certain foods have been deemed "comfort" foods because of the effect that they have on our emotions. While it's definitely not healthy to overeat, or stuff down emotions with junk food, there is nothing wrong with recognizing the pleasurable aspects of eating the foods we love. In fact, one in particular (CHOCOLATE!) can even help treat stress by positively impacting our hormones...yes, this is science, people!
Eat Chocolate...Stress Less
It turns out "emotional eating" might not be all bad. A study published by the Journal of Proteome Research found that eating 40 grams (about 1.4 oz) of dark chocolate per day for a timeframe of two weeks actually reduced cortisol levels, the stress hormone that is most known for activating the fight-or-flight response. In case you weren't aware, there is little else that mucks with our overall health and well being, our hormone balance, and even our immune system, quite like cortisol. Lowering levels of this stress hormone is of utmost importance for a long and vibrant life. Now you have 1 more excuse to indulge fully in your favorite Rawmio chocolate treat!
